Afghan protestors in Hyde Park, London, 30 December 1988
By December 1988, the Soviets had occupied Afghanistan for most of the past decade, and some Afghanis living in London organized a protest and march in London’s Hyde Park. Many held up angry signs saying, “Fascist Communist Russians STOP Genocide in Afghanistan” and “Russians Stop Slaughtering in Afghanistan” and “KGB is the Enemy of Mankind.” The protest was peaceful and orderly, but I found these little children to be the most interesting subjects to photograph. I wonder what became of them?
