Anti-Soviet March, Hyde Park, 30 December, 1988

By December 1988, the Soviets had occupied Afghanistan for most of the past decade, and some Afghanis living in London organized a protest and march in London’s Hyde Park. Many held up angry signs saying, “Fascist Communist Russians STOP Genocide in Afghanistan” and “Russians Stop Slaughtering in Afghanistan” and “KGB is the Enemy of Mankind.” Many brought their children and elderly relatives; there was even a mock missile mounted on the back of a rented truck.
