Londoners Series: The Street Performer, 30 December, 1988
This image was made at the beginning of the performance, when the man stood on top of a rubbish bin to call his audience from all round Covent Garden market. I remember this performance as one of the best I’ve seen in Covent Garden. Six years later, in the summer of 1996, I caught his act again; he was still wearing the same waistcoat. In 1989, I used this image on the poster for my first solo exhibit.
